Salem- Bill passed away on January 10, 2010 in Salem, Oregon. He was born to John Clarence and Elizabeth Dorothy (Riedel) Hill in Minneapolis, Minnesota on May 1, 1920. After his marriage to Inez Joan Jayo on April 27, 1942 in Emmett, ID he started his work in Real Estate. He moved to Prineville, OR in 1943 and to Portland, OR in 1945 to work for Gerber Baby Food. He lived briefly in Redmond and Klamath Falls, OR before returning to Prineville where he worked at Gordon Real Estate and Insurance starting in 1948. After his partner, John Gordon’s death the business was renamed Hill Real Estate and Insurance. He retired in 1985 staying in Prineville until 2005. He lived at Mt. Angel Retirement Community in Mt. Angel, Oregon from 2005 until 2008 before moving to Southern Hills Assisted Living Community in Salem, Oregon. Bill served in the U.S. Army during WWII at Fort Stevens, Oregon.
He was a lifetime member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus Fr. Luke Sheehan Council #0908 and had served as Grand Knight. He was also a member of the Kiwanis, Lions Club, Eagles and Elks. He was a founding member of the Board of Directors for Prineville Bank, on the board of directors for Prineville Hospital, member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, involved with the Boy Scouts of America with his two older sons, Crook County Cowboy Booster Club, Prineville Chamber of Commerce and with the Prineville School Districts PTA holding several positions.
Bill loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, boating and camping. He travelled during retirement in his fifth wheel. He enjoyed crabbing at the Oregon Coast and was an avid fan of Oregon State Beavers Football.
He is survived by his children James and wife Jayne of Salem, Terence and wife Cathy of Bend, OR, Michael of LaPine, OR, Rodney and wife Karen of Stayton, OR, Mary Larson and husband Vaughn of West Linn, OR, and Susan Evans and husband Jim of Redwood City, CA; twelve grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Jack and sister-in-law Helen Hill, sister Kathleen and brother-in-law Russ Ward, grandchildren Breann Larson and Joshua Hill.
A rosary will be held at 7:00 PM on Friday, January 15th at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, January 16th at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Salem. Interment will take place at 9:30 AM on Monday, January 18th at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.
