Service for Warren Homer Orahood will be held as St. Mary’s Cathedral in Portland, Oregon, Friday, May 08, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be in Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon with his wife Jean Marie who preceded him in death.
Warren was born in Lawrence, Kansas July 13, 1925 to William Homer and Mabel Fredericka Orahood and grew up in Winfield, Kansas. He attended the public schools there and graduated from Winfield High School in 1943. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was sent to St. Paul, Minnesota for pre flight training at St. Thomas College where met his future wife Jean Marie Powell. They were married, October 4th, 1947, in St. Marks Catholic Church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Warren served in the Navy in the South Pacific area during the war. They moved to Portland, Oregon 1n 1949 and then to Salem, Oregon in 1964. After his retirement from Allstate Insurance in 1989 they moved to Bakersfield, California. He was a member of Queen of Peace Church in Salem, Oregon and St. Philip the Apostle Church in Bakersfield, California.
Warren loved to golf, bowl, swim, travel domestically and enjoyed growing fruit in his backyard that he shared with family and friends. At 79 he took some flights in an old World War II Navy SNJ-5 and learned to loop, roll, barrel roll and how to execute a Cuban Eight. He loved flying. He preferred driving so he could enjoy God’s masterful scenery.
Warren is survived by daughters Suzanne Marie Rutter of Eugene, Sharon Lee Bennett of Bend, Oregon, Jo Anne Liston of Vancouver, Washington and sons Thomas Charles Orahood of Vancouver, Washington and Robert John Orahood of Salem, Oregon. His sister Mathilda Louise Ray resides in Stockton, California, brother Wesley L. Orahood of Bakersfield, California and brother Gerald E. Orahood of Garibaldi, Oregon. He has 10 Grandchildren and 6 Great-Grandchildren.
