SALEM – Sarah Patricia Judy, 83, of Salem, OR passed away this week from complications during the recovery of an abdominal aneurysm surgery.
She was born March 24, 1926 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada to Lehi Harold Marsden and Sarah Janie Davis Pitts. Raised on a ranch in Canada, she then immigrated with her parents, older brother Lehi Davis and younger sister Madelon Janey to Gold Hill, Oregon in 1939.
In her early life she became paralyzed after fighting the Black Small Pox, the doctors told her she would never walk again. She not only walked, she became a jitterbug dance champion during WWII. She was made of tough pioneer stock and a fighter through and through. During the war, she married her first husband and became a mother to Todalene Patsy. In 1947, she married her second husband William (Bill) Herman Judy, later giving birth to William Daniel Judy. She was a proud mother and grandmother who took pride in raising her children and grandchildren. Many of her family’s fondest memories include the scent of freshly baked bread emanating from her kitchen, the summers spent with her camping and all the card and board games she would play endlessly. She was also an avid reader and gardener, was known for teaching her family how to cook, sew and think smarter not harder. Sarah always found time for her many generations of children and she always had an open door. A member of the Mormon Church her entire life and was proud of her family heritage.
In her very full life, she also found time to operate many companies out of her home, her most successful being Mag-Flex Sales, an international sign supply company. After the death of her husband Bill in 1982, she met Harvey Gubera who became her companion for the next 22 years, until his death in 2006.
Preceding her in death were her parents Lehi Harold Marsden and Sarah Janie Pitts, her sister Madelon Janey Allen and half-sister Janice Lou Pitts.
Sarah Patricia is survived by her brother Lehi Davis Marsden of NV, daughter Todalene Patsy and David Barrick of Roseburg, OR , son William Daniel and Anne Judy of Salem, OR, grandchildren: Tammy Lee and Frank Miller of Roseburg, OR, Brian Houston and Christine Barrick of Raleigh, NC, William Ryan Judy and fiancé Megan Monroe of Hillsboro, OR, Rory Eugene Judy of Salem, OR and Breeanna Marie Judy of Burbank, CA, great grandchildren: Russel and Brandy Pflieger of Springfield, OR, Connor and Dylan Barrick of Raleigh, NC, great-great grandchildren Audrie and Ty Pflieger of Springfield, OR.
Sarah Patricia was loved by many and will be remembered warmly. No formal services will take place per her wishes; her ashes will be spread amongst the ponderosa pines in Eastern Oregon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Salem Hospital Auxiliary who was generously kind to our family during Sarah’s extended hospital stay. The family would like to extend there sincerest thanks to the entire staff at the Salem Regional Hospital.
