SALEM - Roy was born in Silverton, Oregon, the youngest of five siblings to the parents of Amos and Elma Amstutz.
Roy retired from the Oregon State Correctional Institute as a Corporal after almost 30 years of service.
He loved camping, traveling and fishing with his family. He especially enjoyed trips he made from Hawaii to San Diego aboard the U.S.S. Tarawa and the U.S.S. Tripoli, of which his oldest son, Rex, was stationed.
Roy had a big heart and was full of laughs. You knew you would get to hear a new jokes and funny stories whenever you saw him. He lived his life to the fullest and always had a kind word for everyone around him.
Roy was proceeded in death by his first wife Mary Amstutz, and is survived by his current wife Phyllis Amstutz, as well his son Rex Amstutz and his wife Lynn, his son Michael Amstutz and his wife Velma, his daughter Trina Sorensen and her husband Keith.
He is also survived by his six grandchildren, Laura, Rex Jr., Kathy, Krissy, Kristian, and Kallan, as well as two great-grandchildren, Ashlee, and Adriane.
A Memorial to celebrate his life is scheduled for December 18th, 2009 from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. at the Sleepy Hollow Recreational Hall, 1916 Icabod St. NE Salem, OR. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
