Salem - Ronald H. Cummings died in his sleep on Friday November 13. Born December 18, 1929 in Newberg, OR. to Claude and Thelma Cummings. Ron grew up Newberg, McMinnville and Salem. He graduated from Newberg High School and entered the family business which eventually became known as Cummings Distributing. In the 1970’s Ron was one of four business partners who began the Courthouse Fitness Centers (originally Courthouse Athletic Club), which became very successful. Ron’s business success never went to his head. He was a kind and generous friend to too many to name in this limited space. Among his many contributions to our community was helping to establish one of the first rehabilitation centers for at risk youth in our community, “Cry of Love.” Preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Donna. Survived by brother Ray and his wife, Becky, son Tom, daughter Teresa, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to The Boys and Girls Club or Willamette Valley Hospice.
Services will be held on Saturday November 21 at 1:00 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Salem/ 5090 Center St., NE. (at the corner of Center and Cordon). Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service
