In loving memory

Ramona Agnes Herr
Oct. 6, 1911 - May 14, 2010

Salem - Ramona Agnes Herr passed away into the arms of our Lord on the morning of Friday, May 14, 2010. She was 98 years old.
Born to Daniel and Grace Nickisch October 6, 1911 in Wishek, North Dakota, Ramona attended grade school, high school, and teacher's college. She then went on to teach school in Wishek, which she loved. Ramona met John G. Herr, also a teacher, and they were married June 14, 1931. The two were blessed with a daughter, Laurel Grace (Mrs. Marlin Nelson) in 1935, moved to Red Wing, Minnesota, and then to Salem, Oregon. While in Red Wing, in 1945, they were once again blessed, this time with a son, John Sheridan (who later married Patricia Fiedler). Ramona and John loved spending time with friends and family, playing games, visiting "the kids," preparing family Sunday dinners, going on picnics, camping, attending church activities, and traveling.
Ramona's husband, John G. went to be with our Lord in 1987, but not
before making arrangements and beginning the transition for Ramona to move into an apartment at Salem's Capitol Manor. Ramona became a well-loved friend to many residents there. She remained in such good health that she was able to assist with the physical and emotional issues of those frailer and even younger than she. In 1988, Ramona was diagnosed with congestive heart failure which eventually required her to move into Capitol Manor's assisted care and later to their full care. But even in her last frail years she maintained a warm sense of humor, compassion, and love for all who cared for her.
Ramona belonged to PEO and was a member of the Congregational Church.
She also volunteered to help others whenever opportunity arose. She played bridge and other games, knitted, crocheted, toll painted, and
traveled-including to the Holy Lands.
Striving to discover good in life's experiences, finding God's grace in
trials, laying a foundation of faith, hope, and love for her two children, six grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren; Ramona will be missed by many, but will remain in the hearts of her family forever.

Ramona's family would like to thank the staff at Capitol Manor for
their loving care for her over the years. Memorial Services will be at 2:00 pm Friday May 28, 2010 at Capital Manor. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
