Robert Larry Carns passed away on December 25, 2006 at the age of 71, surrounded by his family. He was born May 6, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa to Earl and Gladys(Heliport) Carns.
Larry was raised in Murray, Iowa. He married Janyce Copple in 1960. His career spanned a variety of occupations such as owning and operating a barbershop in West Des Moines Iowa, worked in the construction industry (including the Prineville Dam), achieved an Associates Degree in Accounting from Chemeketa Community college then worked in the Oregon Department of Revenue. With his wife in 1985, he opened and ran Larry's Locksmith Service in Salem, retiring in 1998. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Larry was a Past Master of Vista Masonic Lodge # 215 where he was noted for his caring for others by founding and cooking a Thanksgiving Dinner at the Masonic Lodge for those less fortunate and Christmas parties for homeless children. He was a Scottish Rite Mason 32 degree where he received the honor of KCCH in 2005. Larry was also a Shrine Mason.
Larry is survived by his wife Jan of Salem, OR, daughters Laurie Melchor and Debra Carns, both of Salem; granddaughters Elizabeth and Jennifer Dudding, both of Salem; great-grandchildren Katelyn Dudding, Shawn and Gavin Thomas, all of Salem; brothers Eldon Carns of Des Moines, IA, and James Carns of Wichita KS; sisters Opal Saffell of Seattle, WA; Lucille Edwards of Moro;, OR, Louise Brown of McMinnville, OR, Helen Manning of Wichita KS and JoAnn DeMOss of Ankeny, IA; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be Sunday Dec 31st from 11am to 5pm and Tuesday Jan. 2nd from 5pm to 8PM with services on Wednesday January 3rd at 2:00 pm at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
