Natalie Jane Hegstrom, age 78, went unto the Lord on December 9, 2009. Natalie was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota on August 11, 1931. She and her two brothers were raised by her parents Helmer and Mildred Shelley.
Natalie was married to Leo T. Hegstrom for 51 years until his death in 2001. They lived in Walker, Minnesota, Madison, Wisconsin, and Evanston, Illinois, but they enjoyed their best years on their small farm in Salem. They have lived in Salem since 1959 where they raised their four sons on the Hegstrom Homestead.
She was a devoted Wife, Mother and Grandmother and she also loved her animal friends on the farm. She loved flowers and gardening all year long. Her other passion included traveling around the United States and Europe, visiting family in Norway and Sweden.
Natalie was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church, the Scandinavian Heritage Foundation, Vasa Lodge and the Howell Prairie Cemetery Association. She also was a devoted member of the Sons of Norway. She spent countless hours fundraising and creating beautiful artistic decorations for special events held by the Sons of Norway.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leo and her sons Theodore and Mark. She is survived by sons Paul and wife, Karlene; Jon and wife Ann; and David, along with four Grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be made to the Sons of Norway, the Scandinavian Heritage Foundation, or the American Cancer Society.
Memorial services will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church located at 790 Marion Street NE, Salem, Oregon on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at 1:00 pm. Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
