Mary Lou Strong Pilafian

Mary Lou Strong Pilafian, age 66, died peacefully at home in Salem Oregon on Wednesday, June 10, 2009, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Mary Lou was born in Portland, Oregon on April 10, 1943. She graduated from Franklin High School then moved to Eugene to attend the University of Oregon and to raise a family. In 1998 Mary Lou moved to Salem.
Mary Lou is survived by her mother, Velma Strong; a son, John Pilafian Jr.; a daughter, Julianna Pilafian; a brother, Eugene Strong; three granddaughters, Amanda, Emily, and Tara; and a great-grandson, Kainoa.
She was preceded in death by her father, Sidney A. Strong.
Mary Lou possessed a quiet strength, a sharp intellect, a quick wit, and a radiant spirit. She was an artist who could create beautiful works of art from thread, yarn, and fabric. Her afgans and quilts will warm our bodies just as her loving spirit will warm our hearts for eternity.
A funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 15 at First Congregational Church located at 700 Marion Street, Salem. Memorial contributions may be sent to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave, Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245
