SALEM--Maxine was born in Newberg, Oregon to Napoleon Bonaparte Moses and Elizabeth Kempton Moses. She grew up on Scio area farms, graduated from Scio High School in 1938, and attended business college in Salem where she has lived for the past 70 years. She met Leslie Arnold Morgan at a Camp White dance during World War II. They were married in 1946 and were together until his death in 1991.
Maxine was a gracious friend, thoughtful, tenacious, had a dry sense of humor, saved everything, and loved and was generous to her family. She enjoyed celebrating holidays, finding treasures at garage sales, and reading every word of the paper. She was a long time member of First Christian Church, active in her women’s group. She volunteered with Camp Fire Girls and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by her two daughters, Dana McBrien (husband Phil) of Salem and Marcia Morgan (husband Andy Jordan) of Bend; grandsons Patrick McBrien of Portland and Brendan McBrien in Boston; step granddaughters Kristi Monighetti of Los Alamos and Allison Schwartz of San Diego, and two step great grandchildren Bobbie and Miley Monighetti.
Maxine died of natural causes surrounded by family. A memorial service will be held at First Christian Church at 1:00 on Saturday, Nov. 7. In lieu of flowers, contribution can be made to Union Gospel Mission or the church memorial fund.
Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
