Salem – Gregg was born in Sugar Grove, PA to Alden and Mary Hall Abbott. His nickname “ Moose” came about during his high school sports days. “Moose” served in Germany with the US Army 8th Division, 45th field Artillery from 1956 – 1958. He graduated from San Bernardino Valley College in California in 1986.
After living in Southern California for 25 years, he moved to Roseburg, Ore in 1988 and to Salem in 1999 after retiring from the Veteran’s Medical Center, where he was a member of the Mental Health Specialty Team.
Gregg was an active member of the Salem First Baptist Church where he was a choir member and participant in drama productions.
His interests included “digging in the dirt”, camping, RVing, and spending winters at countryside RV Resort in Apache Junction, AZ. His passion was acting in community theatre from high school and on to his latest play “Guys and Dolls” at the Pentacle Theatre. While living in Roseburg, he was very active with both UACT and at Umpqua community college.
Gregg is survived by his wife, Vickie, whom he met in Arizona, who loves him, and cared for him, supporting him tirelessly during his fight with cancer. Also survived by his oldest son, Thomas Gregg, and wife Kristin; his youngest son, Kevin Mitchell and wife Amy; grandson Kyle, granddaughter Krista, two great-grandsons, his beloved sister and brother in law Gladys and Stanley Meleen, and his brother Richard, all living in PA.
A memorial services will be at 3:00 pm Tuesday, Dec 29th at Salem First Baptist Church. A graveside service will be in the spring of 2010 in Sugar Grove, PA. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
