Lt. CDR James Calvin Woodard, Sr., U.S.N.
November 10, 1927 - December 21, 2006

Lt. CDR James Calvin Woodard, Sr., U.S.N. Retired passed away on December 21, 2006 at the age of 79. He was born November 10, 1927 in La Junta, Colorado to Clarence and Gladys (Williams) Woodard.
Jim was raised in Colorado. He joined the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 in 1945 an served on submarines for several years. He was commissioned as an officer in 1956. Jim received his bachelors degree while in the military and retired as Lt. Commander in 1967.
After retiring from the Navy, Jim worked as a Systems Analyst for the Oakland, California School District, retiring in 1989. He married Mary Ellen Gwin in 1950 and raised three wonderful sons. They lived in El Cerrito, California and traveled a lot after they retired. They settled in Salem, in 2003.
Jim had been a member of Westbrae Bible Church in Berkeley, California and attended Faith Baptist Church in Salem. He loved to read and enjoyed sports, especially baseball, basketball, and college football. He especially enjoyed scuba diving with his son, Mike and watching his grandchildren play sports.
Jim was preceded in death by his son, Micaely Ray Woodard in 1973 and his brother, Richard in 2003. Jime is survived by his wife, Mary ellen Woodard of Salem; sons, James(Ruth) Woodard, Jr. and Robert Woodard of Colorado and Thomas Woodard of West Virginia; one sister, Lela Risi of Colorado; five grandchildren, Katie (Kyle) Archibald, Beth, Matthew, Mandy, and Michael Woodard.
Funeral Services were Saturday, December 23rd at Faith Baptist Church, 3345 Cordon Rd NE Salem. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
