In loving memory

Lisa Josephine Nelson
July 13, 1970 - April 29, 2010

After a valiant and courageous battle with breast cancer, Lisa Josephine Nelson died April 29, 2010 at Sweet Bye and Bye adult care facility.

Lisa was born July 13, 1970 in San Jose, California, daughter of William and Lori Hubbard. She moved with her family to Salem when she was seven years old. During high school, Lisa went on two missions trips. She traveled to South America with Salem Christian Missionary Alliance Church. She also traveled throughout Europe with Royal Servants for a summer’s ministry. Lisa graduated from Sprague High School in 1988. After graduating she attended a Christian college in Saskatchewan, Canada. Lisa worked as a nanny in private home care and at various day care schools. She graduated from the College of Hair Design Careers in 1993. Lisa worked at The Red Door (formerly All Jazzed Up) from 1994 until present.

Lisa was married to Joel Nelson on December 18, 1993 at Calvary Baptist Church where she had accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young child. They had two children: Olivia Rose, born April 22, 1998 and Philip Robert Scott, born June 19, 2002.

Lisa was a creative and talented hairdresser who took great pleasure in her work. Her clients soon became her friends because of her outgoing and caring personality. A gifted singer, Lisa enjoyed singing in choirs during high school and sang in the Morning Star Community Church music groups for many years. She created and ran a unique online baby boutique, “Ooh La La.”

Lisa was a devoted wife and loving mother. Her greatest pleasure came from caring for her family and spending time with them. She taught her daughter Olivia to sing and mentored her son Philip in his mechanical skills. She nurtured her children and encouraged her husband. A creative seamstress, she was constantly giving handmade gifts to many people. She was an optimistic and generous woman.

Above all, Lisa was a dedicated Christian. Her faith in Jesus Christ gave her joy, strength, and courage all of her life and upheld her during her six-year battle with cancer. She was brave and uncomplaining. Though she was ill, she unfailingly gave her family and friends comfort and hope.

Lisa was deeply loved, appreciated, and admired by her family and friends. Though Lisa will be sorely missed, her family and friends take comfort in knowing she is with her Savior Jesus Christ, whom she so faithfully served. Surviving Lisa are her husband Joel Nelson, daughter Olivia Nelson, son Philip Nelson, parents William and Lori Hubbard, brothers Mark and Paul Hubbard, and sister Jana Trainor.

A memorial will be held at Morning Star Community Church at 2 pm on Monday, May 3. Contributions may be made to West Coast Bank: Nelson Benefit Account. Interment will be at Belcrest Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
