Salem- Jeanine Day Barbee died at age 72 on July 20, 2010 in Salem, OR. She was born on May 3, 1938 to Willard and Lenore Day in Portland, OR. Two children, Teri Barbee Ray and Bradley Barbee, and one grandchild, Jordan Ray, survive Jeanine and her former husband Ward Barbee.

 

Jeanine was a 1956 graduate of South Salem High. She worked as a bookkeeper and secretary for nearly 20 years at C. A. Lantz Construction Co., following the footsteps of her mother who also worked there for nearly 30 years.

 

She was an active volunteer for the Boys and Girls Aid Society. She was also a member of WIC, Women in Construction. Jeanine was an avid knitter and enjoyed fine cuisine with her family, especially when prepared by her son, a professional chef.

 

She assisted her aging mother for many years. Eventually Jeanine lived in care facilities for several years with serious health problems before her death.

 

There will be a viewing at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service, from 1:00 to 4:00 PM, on Sunday, July 25, followed by a Celebration of Life at West Side Station Restaurant, 610 Edgewater St. NW at 5:00 PM.

 

Jeanine’s urn will be placed next to the final resting place of her parents in Portland.
