In loving memory

Jeanette I. Cotting
Nov 4, 1930 - June 3, 2009

Salem - On June 3, 2009, Jeanette I. Cotting passed peacefully away and rejoined her maker. Jeanette was born on November 4, 1930 in Chicago, Illinois, where she lived for the first 17 years of her life. After graduating from high school, she moved to Southern California with her mother and lived there for the next 27 years. She moved to Oregon in 1973 and lived in Gates, Oregon for 13 years and then later moved to Stayton and eventually Salem.
Jeanette lived a full and active life, pursuing many interests and activities. She had a love for singing and sang with the Oregon Festival Chorale for 12 years and the "Just for Fun Singers." She loved to tell jokes and could always be counted on to have a new one every time you saw her. She cared deeply for others and gave freely of her time. She served as a Stevens Minister, volunteered at the Salem Memorial Hospital and was very active in Beginning Experiences. She was a wonderful friend, keeping in contact with dozens of people throughout the country. Most importantly she was a loving and caring mother and her family will miss her greatly. Her passing has left a great void in the lives of those who loved her.
Jeanette was predeceased by her parents, her brother Ted Dzieciatkowski and sister Helen Grant, and her daughter Mary Shirley. She is survived by her sister Genevieve Rudd, her brother John Dzieciatkowksi, and her remaining seven children: Roy Popp, Tom Popp, Dave Popp, Jill VanLydegraf, Jim Popp, Peter Cotting and Jeanette Thomas (Jani Cotting), and their respective spouses and significant others. She is also survived by 9 grandchildren:  Russell Popp, Amber Miller, Kayla VanLydegraf, Alysha Popp, Rashae Crawford, Jamin Popp, Jennifer Shirley, Fiona Rose Thomas and Gordon Thomas, and 5 great grandchildren:  Zoey Popp, Vayden Popp, James Popp, Hannah Miller, and Elizabeth Marie Johnson.
A celebration of life will be held at Liberty Christian Church, 4764 Skyline Road South, Salem, Oregon on June 13 at 11:00 a.m. Please no suits or somber clothing, Jeanette wanted a joyful remembrance of her life and asked that people dress in bright, happy colors. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oregon Community Foundation,  The Cotting Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1221 SW Yamhill St. Suite 100 Portland, Ore 97205.
Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
