SALEM – Helen Greiner-Summer passed away on June 7 at the age of 87. She was born September 16, 1921 in The Dalles, Oregon to William and Helen (Elget) Schanz.
Helen was raised in The Dalles and married Paul Michael Greiner Sr. in 1940. They moved to Salem in 1952. She worked at Kelly Farquhar Cannery, but truly loved being a homemaker and raising her family. She enjoyed hosting many family gatherings over the years. Helen was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She later married Eugene Summer. Helen enjoyed knitting, cooking, sewing painting and gardening.
Helen was preceded in death by her husband Paul Michael Greiner Sr. and later Eugene Summer, and her daughter Mary Katherine “Mamie” Greiner. She is survived by sons, Paul Michael “Buddy” Greiner Jr. of Turner, George William Greiner of Jefferson and Allen Joseph Greiner of Turner; daughters Yvonne Helena “Bonnie” Landers of Salem, Marjorie Kay “Mitzy” Steiner of Florida, Anita Theresa “Neno” Charpentier of Salem and Ada Marie Thiems of Salem; 30 grandchildren and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, June 13, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Shaw. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kidney Foundation. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
