In loving memory

HARLAN MARTIN MAGNUSON
December 18, 1953 - November 8, 2009

Salem-Harlan was born to Clarence J. Magnuson and Frances I. Harlan in Salem, Oregon. He was the youngest of five children.

He attended Salem Schools graduating from North Salem High.

Harlan enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1971 and was stationed on the east coast.

Following his honorable discharge in 1974, he returned to Salem. He then moved to and eventually bought a home in Portland.

Harlan’s training in the Air Force led him to positions with Evergreen Helicopter in McMinnville and Oregon Health Sciences University in Portland doing electronic maintenance. He also worked for the Oregon Dept. of Environmental Quality for a time before retirement.

Harlan’s daughters and their families were the joys of his life.

He is survived by: daughters, Crystel (Jamie) Dyson and grandchildren, Aria and Alec of Salem; Marisa (Larry) Herman and grandchildren Jamey and Calvin of Florida; sisters, Darlene Tuenker of Grants Pass and Charlotte Scott of Salem; Lud and Betty DeVito and Harlan’s cat, Sunshine of Salem.

Harlan’s parents, his older brother, Eugene and a niece, Karen Bates (born on Harlan’s birthday) preceded him.

We are so thankful for Dr. Murphy with Veterans Hospital and Dr. Gilaud and each and everyone of the hospice staff, B unit, at the Vancouver Veterans’ Care Facility. Their loving and gentle care of Harlan and us, his family, was so gracious. They’re God’s Angels with skin. He passed so peacefully, perfectly healed by the Almighty Physician.

We thank you all for your prayers.

A private family service will be held.

Arrangements by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
