Geneva Lucille Benesh, age 93 passed away May 5, 2009 at Brookstone Care Center in Salem, Oregon
Geneva was born on November 30, 1915 in Ft. Worth, Texas to Fredrick Anthony Sansoni and Essie Viola Keene. She was the third of five children in the family who were raised in Ft. Worth, Texas moving to San Bernardino, California in 1935.
In 1945 she met and married her sweetheart, Harold Benesh. They lived for several years in the Medford/Ashland area while he worked for the U.S.Forest Service. He and a brother received their educations from Oregon State University. Harold became a Lt. Colonel in the USAF during his career, serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. The couple traveled extensively, played golf passionately and never had children. They were married 47 years until his death in 1992. She also is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Leetrice and three brothers, Richard, Doyle and Charles.
Geneva will be remembered for her glamour and style, sense of humor, and determined spirit. She was a creative, multi-talented and vibrant woman with many interests. An accomplished seamstress and decorator.
She lived last in Lancaster, California before moving to Salem in 2005. She is survived by one nephew; Daniel Sansoni, California, three nieces; Linda Hoffman, Oregon, Marilyn Sansoni, Texas and Carole Keller, Washington, four cousins; Dr.Doris Jean Clayton, Bill Clayton, Margaret Barnwell, Alice Turner and her faithful cocker spaniel, Buster.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 10th, 1-5pm at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Servicce and Internment will be 1:30 pm Monday May 11 at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland, Oregon alongside her husband Harold.
