Salem- Eva Ellen Van Vleet passed away on July 7, 2010 at the age of 96. She was born on February 7, 1914 in Spokane, Washington to Charles and Anna (Peterson) Smith.
Eva moved to Salem after completing nursing school in Spokane in 1939. She married John Patrick Van Vleet in 1940 and they were married 64 years. They moved to Lebanon, Oregon in 1946 where she was employed by the Lebanon Community Hospital. Upon retirement Eva and John moved back to Salem in 1976. She enjoyed playing cards and reading. She was also active in the Order of the Eastern Star.
Eva is survived by her three sons, John of Danville, California, Charles of Bend, and Ralph of AKP, Alaska; one daughter, Karen (husband, Laurence) Bickell of Salem; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 2005.

Visitation will be from Noon to 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 10th and Sunday, July 11th at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 12th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1444 Liberty St. SE, Salem. Entombment will follow at Mt. Crest Abbey Mausoleum.
