Salem- Eleanor Lorene (Parnell) Bulgin, who died April 9 at age 90, was born November 8, 1918 in Chinook, Montana, to Archie and Hattie(Dickinson) Parnell. She move to the Salem area with her family as a small child. She graduated from Salem High School, class of l936. She attended Cascade College, Portland, Oregon and Seattle Pacific College (now University).
In 1942 she married Lansing Bulgin in Long Beach, California. She was a homemaker and taught women’s physical education at both high school and college levels. Other interests included art, photography, birding and bonsai.
In 1996 she and Lansing moved back to Salem to Capital Manor. She was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include husband; daughter, Jan Wood, Seattle; son, Bud (Hope) Bulgin, Salem; grandchildren: Becky Wood, Belinda Wood, Beth(Mark) Oppenlander, all of Seattle; Mark (Tiffany) Bulgin, and Jennifer (Jeffery) Roth of Salem; and 5 great grandchildren: Zachary Bulgin, Andrew Bulgin, Josiah Roth, Titus Roth, and Abby Roth.
She was preceded in death by brothers: Merle Parnell and Darrel Parnell; sister, Irene Gilliard; and great-grandson, Isaac Bulgin.
Her memorial service will be held 10:00 am Monday, April 20, 2009 at Capital Manor, 1955 Dallas Highway NW, Salem, Or.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made Issac’s Room, 299 Cottage St., Salem, Or, 97301, or Capital Manor Foundation, 1955 Dallas Hwy, Salem, Or. Inurnment at Dallas (Oregon) Cemetery.
