Salem - Dora was born in Osh Kosh, Wisconsin on June 23, 1926. She and her twin sister, Doris, were the daughters of Charles and Laura Barrett. Dora, Doris, their sister Roxie and parents spent most of their lives in the Willamette Valley living in the Jefferson area and moving to the Brooks/Gervais area after the girls graduated from high school in Salem. She met her husband Irv at a dance at the Salem Armory and they were married on May 17, 1952. While raising six boys with Irv she worked at the Marion County Courthouse off and on for over 20 years.
Dora was preceded in death by her parents, sisters, husband and son, Bud. She is survived by 5 sons: Tom, Jerry, Ron, Greg and Steve. She enjoyed her 16 grandchildren and many great grandchildren. Irv, Dora and Doris were fixtures at the many athletic contests of their grandchildren and great grandchildren and so involved in family that if there was a celebration of any kind for the grandchildren or great grandchildren you knew that they would be attending. They liked to take short trips to visit extended family in Washington and California. Being an avid bowler, Dora and Doris traveled to many parts of the country to participate in many bowling tournaments and “see the sights” associated with each area. Dora enjoyed crocheting and made many afghans for members of her family and close friends. She enjoyed watching the Blazers on TV or just listening to the game on the radio while playing solitaire at the kitchen table.
Dora left us on August 27, and will join Irv at Willamette National Cemetery on Friday, September 3, 2010. Services will be held at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service in Salem, Oregon at 10:00 am earlier that day. Flowers are welcome; in lieu of flowers donations to the American Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
