She was first and foremost, a mother to two boys and a girl. Donni put her children first always. She insisted on education, healthy living and respect for others and mothers have a way of getting their way. But we are getting a head of ourselves.
She was born in 1915 in Woodburn, Oregon to Charles and Ruby Conyne. She grew up there on a small family farm. In about 1932, while attending Woodburn High School, Donni suffered from her pig tails being dipped in the ink well of the desk directly behind her. Delmar Ramsdell was the perpetrator. Later he would become her friend, lover, and husband for 68 years. It was a strong relationship that she would treasure always. After graduating from Woodburn High School, Oregon Normal School provided for her life long work, a teaching certificate and a life of joy as an educator. Donni enjoyed teaching in western Oregon, from Roseburg to Dillard to the Salem schools of Keizer, Bush, Sunnyview and McKinley, as well as doing specialty home tutoring for home bound students.
She was always an active, busy person. She swam, water skied, played tennis and arranged flowers for the Little Garden Club of Salem Heights. She enjoyed sewing, travelling and playing bridge with her bridge club. Her final years were marred by a long bout with heart disease, but she did not let her fight mar her life at their home on Hoyt Street and finally at Redwood Heights ALC. She was always a lady and always loved animals and friends with a warmth that will not be forgotten by her survivors, Valerie Capps, Del Ramsdell, Jr,, Chuck Ramsdell, four grand children and three great grand children.
Visitation will be from 10:00am to 11:00am Saturday, June 6, at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service with graveside service at City View Cemetery to follow at 12:00noon.
