Salem - Don Welllman was born to Arthur and Murial Wellman of Montrose, Colorado. The family moved to Prescott, Arizona a year after his birth. Don and his two brothers, Robert(Bob) and William(Bill) grew up in Prescott and attended Groom Creek Grade School and Prescott High School. After high school he enlisted in the army and served his country during World War II. He spent most of his working years in construction and while living in Oregon was the yard foreman for Dale Pence Construction until he retired.
Don is survived by his wife and companion, Janette and his two children:Jim(Darlene) Wellman of Phoenix, Arizona, and Donna(Philip) Lupo of Salem, Oregon, five grandchildren; Scott(Shannon) Wellman, Matthew(Sarah) Wellman, Michael Welllman of Phoenix, Arizona, Beth (Dustin) Gibbins and Emma Lupo of Salem, Oregon; four great-grandchildren; Katelynn, Kyle, Koby and Madison. He also had four stepchildren; Ken Evens, Dan (Diana) Evens, Mark Evens and Vicky (Mike) McKinney, all living in Oregon, nine step granchildren and one step great-grandchild.
Don was a true optimist and loved to laugh. He was mild mannered and tried to find the good in all circumstances. He was an avid fisherman, loved the outdoors and spent many hours square dancing, and camping with his RV friends. One could often find him with a hammer in his hand helping his family build new homes.
Don had a special bond with his family who often turned to him for advice or a comforting word. He was always there for the folks he loved and went out of his way to meet the needs of his family and friends. He will be greatly missed by all who lived him.
A memorial service will be at 11:00 am Saturday, March 17th at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
