SALEM – David F. Traglio, 87, born April 13, 1922 in Salem, Oregon, died at Mt. Angel on December 21, 2009. He was a native son of Salem, but moved his family to Kailua, Hawaii from 1954 to 1985 where he was an air traffic controller until he retired and returned to his native home in Salem with his wife, Mary.
He sold magazines when he was young to some of the most noted people in Salem. Everyone wanted to help this young person become a wonderful man. They succeeded and so did he. When the war came, David enlisted in the US Navy, moved to Tongue Pt. Astoria with his new wife Mary, whom he married on Jan. 23, 1942. He then went on to the Pacific Theatre. After he was discharged from the Navy working as an Air Traffic Controller, he went on to the same position with the Government until his retirement. This was his life’s call and how he and his family ended up in Hawaii. He loved his work and was very proud of what he did. When he retired in the 70’s, bowling was his passion and he had more than one 300 perfect game. He then took up golfing and scored a Hole in One. He was a great man and more than that a great father. He will be missed.
His wife Mary Dauenhauer Traglio passed away in 1997. He is survived by daughters, Roberta “Bobbie” Snyder of Mexico and Delores “Dodie” Evans of Colorado; four grandchildren, Lori Harding and Aaron Alfonso of Arizona, Heather Evans and Amber Evans of Colorado; six great grandchildren, and one great great-grandchild.
A Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, December 29 at Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service. A service will be held at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, December 30th at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland where he and his wife’s ashes will be interred together for their final resting place.
