Salem – Darrell E. Wilson, 94, passed away Friday. Born and raised in Gales Creek, Ore, where the family was one of the original families to homesteaded in Gales Creek. He graduated from Forest Grove High School. Darrell worked for the CCC before going to Oregon Normal School, now Western Oregon University, where he met his wife to be Blanche Vesley, graduating in 1938. On Aug. 24, 1940, he married Blanche in Portland and in 1943, they had a son, Donald. After graduation, he returned to Gales Creek where he was a teacher and the principal. He then moved to Riverdale School in Portland. During the war, Darrell was a welding supervisor at the Portland Shipyards. He then went on to receive his Masters in Education from the University of Oregon. He was a principal in Beaverton School District, retiring in 1981. In Sept. 2007 Darrell and Blanche moved to Salem to be closer to their son and his family. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, enjoyed square dancing, building and fixing things, traveling and camping.
He is survived by: wife, Blanche; son, Donald (Carolyn) of Salem; grandsons, Donald II (Wynona) of Preston, WA and Matthew and four great-grandchildren of Salem.
Services will be at 11:00 am Friday at Riverview Abbey Mausoleum. Arrangements are by Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service.
