Phoenix, AZ - Dorothy Lucille Gallagher (Langenegger), 99, met the Lord on January 19, 2010, just 2 months shy of her 100th birthday. Dorothy was born on March 29, 1910 in Omaha, NE. She was as a member of the debate team at Omaha Technical High School where she graduated as Valedictorian in 1928. Dorothy married Joseph Gallagher in 1937 and the couple resided in Salem where she dedicated her life to raising their two children, John and Jody. Never one to shirk hard work, Dorothy contributed to the well-being of her family by helping to manage and harvest crops in the family bean fields and orchards. Truly devoted to her community, Dorothy spent many years volunteering for Salem Memorial Hospital. After her husband’s unexpected death in 1974, Dorothy learned independence and endured with a zest for life that enabled her to live on her own in Salem until age 97. She loved attending Capital Park Wesleyan Methodist Church in Salem where she was an active of member of the Womens’ Fellowship and cherished the many friendships she cultivated there. Dorothy was an avid reader, loved knitting and crossword puzzles, and enjoyed many years as a member of the Dabblers arts and crafts group. Even at 99, she could still beat her entire family at cards. Dorothy gave generously to charities and adored watching her great grandsons “busy” playing. She truly touched the lives of everyone who knew her and will forever remain in the hearts of her surviving family: son Dr. John Gallagher (wife Teresa), daughter Jody Womack (husband Phil), grandson Patrick Gallagher, granddaughter Dori Zavala (husband Frank), and her beloved four great grandsons, Andrew, Ethan, Jaden, and Tristan.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 27th at 10a.m. - 11 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am Virgil T. Golden Funeral Service followed by interment at Restlawn Memory Gardens.
