Salem- Betty June Lessenger died October 12th in Salem at the age of 86. She was born in San Diego, California, May 19, 1923 to Paul and June Easton.

 

In 1935 the family, including sister Paula and brother Donn, moved to Beaverton, where she graduated from high school in 1941. On May 11, 1943 Betty married her high school sweetheart, Robert Yunker. In their 27 years of marriage they lived in Park Rose and West Union. After a few years in San Diego, she moved to Salem in 1976 to be close to her family. There she met and married Paul Lessenger and he preceded her in death.

 

In retirement Betty loved to travel; she and Paul in the United States and Spain; and with Festival Chorale Oregon she saw Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Sweden and New York, where they sang at Carnegie Hall in 1999.

 

Betty is survived by her son, R. Jon Yunker and his wife Kathy; daughter, Mary Jesse and her husband Tom; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. A family celebration of her life is planned.
